FAFNM Annual Meeting

Our 2019 Annual meeting is fast approaching! This is an invitation to all members and non members to our annual meeting in October.

Please join us in celebrating The Friends of Aqua Fria on Saturday October 19th from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm in Black Canyon City.

Our day is planned with updates on the Friends Group activities, the Cultural Committee projects, as well as great news about the Dark Sky project and Waterways.

We will be voting for positions on the board.  See previous email for details about candidate openings and proposed changes in the bylaws.

Anyone interested in board positions please email Kathleen at

Although we won't have the usual awards for volunteer hours this year, we will be providing a wonderful catered lunch and refreshments.  Donations will be accepted for lunch.

Please RSVP so we know how much to order for lunch and we look forward to seeing you on October 19th.

FAFNM is holding guided walks on Monument streams during 2019.  These interpretive tours will promote the Smithsonian AZ Water/Ways traveling exhibit, which arrives in Black Canyon City in mid-December 2019.

On this walk we'll visit the ephemeral Badger Spring Wash to see the effects of the Badger Fire that occurred June 2019.  Fall migrating birds and reptiles will be present in this delicate xero-riparian area.  Sunflowers and other plants are attracting butterflies.  The trail is in the sandy wash with a little flow, some mud, and small rocks.  Size limit: 17 persons.  Good for students.

Badger Spring Wash is located 50 miles north of Phx, off I-17 exit #256, one mile east of the Interstate.  Free event; additional hike details are sent when you register.
