Drought impacts to Badger Spring Wash

Badger Spring Wash exhibits features of both an ephemeral and an intermittent waterway.  During wet seasons it may flow for several days or even several months.  However, the prolonged drought that has impacted Arizona since the early 2000's has significantly impacted the wash. In particular, the riparian trees that line the stream banks have thinned and in some places disappeared entirely. This loss of riparian habitat also has impacted wildlife that rely on the trees for cover, shade, and nesting.  The photos below show the drought's impact to a stand of cottonwood near the 9003 trail.
