My Favorite AFNM Glyphs (32)

Just a selection of some of my favorite petroglyphs from the Agua Fria National Monument. Photos are drawn from those taken between 2006 and 2016.
  • Interesting guy in a bubble (shield). Fashionable hair cut and neatly decorated coat.
  • Crab Claw Guy with a floor plan
  • Shield with a tough climb for old guys.
  • Two reverse image friends.
  • The Super Nova Glyph. A large format B&W print done by me in the darkroom I used to own.
  • Four Dancers
  • Just a strange conglomeration of elements. I remember it as the "Hyroglyphics Panel".
  • The Map Petroglyph. Supposedly depicts the major pueblos in the Perry Mesa area. That big crack in the middle is the Agua Fria River.
  • Big Google Eyes shield and his side kick.
  • Initially, I thought this looked like a turtle. Could be anything, but I still call it "The Turtle".
  • I say parrot. Others say swan. It's swan if that upper portion is long neck and head. It's parrot if it's all head with eye in middle. Tail looks like other parrot glyphs elsewhere.
  • The Alligator Guy
  • Pumpkin. They had them, you know...
  • Deer faced with a Buzz Saw, or "The Symposium Glyph"
  • Two superimposed critters done with different methods and styles.
  • Rainbow over a grinding slick
  • Really cool pattern, possibly all one line.
  • Figure Holding a Rainbow. Possibly the Yavapai culture heroine "Komwidapokuwia" under a rainbow.
  • The Christmas Panel. Evergreen in upper left, snow flakes under it, and a line of deer - led by the flying Rudolph in the upper right. Santa got overgrown by lichen.
  • Possibly depicting a burden carrier with pots.
  • "The Spaceman"
  • "The Mystic Lizard"
  • The Rainbow and the Archer
  • The famous "Duck Panel"
  • The Whimsy Boulder
  • Hidden Bird. Identified by some as a Tundra Swan.
  • One of many "Bad Hair Day" guys across Perry Mesa. This one likes animal tracks.
  • Large quadruple enclosed cross at Lost Jupiter.
  • Lots of people refer to this as the "Butterfly". I think it looks like a bat. No, not that little quadruped at the top, the other thing. The thing you probably think looks like a big butterfly.
  • Found along the pathway to one of the pueblos. I refer to the squarish element as a banner, just because it has that kind of shape.
  • Possibly archaic. What I refer to as a blanket pattern. But, who knows... Really great views from this spot.
  • Guy with me when we found it calls it the Mother Ship Glyph. The star below and outside the shield is a landing ship. So he says...
